EFT
- Emotional Freedom Technique
Emotional Freedom Technique is a relatively new therapy to help
those who are suffering mental or physical health problems.
It is usually fast acting and if the problem is overcome during
a session it is normally permanent. This procedure, which enjoys
a high success rate, is very popular in the United States of America
and has more recently come to the United Kingdom.
Over 5000 years ago, the Chinese discovered an energy in the body
which cannot be seen. This energy is thought to be the essence of
all life and this force runs through twelve channels or meridians.
Meridians serve as pathways of positive and negative energy
and communicate at a deep level with the vital systems of the human
body. The meeting points of positive and negative energy along meridians
are acupuncture points and Emotional Freedom Technique is commonly
described as "Psychological Acupuncture", as it works
on these points.
Gary Craig, who originally developed EFT in the USA in the late
1980's says "Try it on anything". He devised "The
Basic Recipe" which consists of a sequence of rhythmic taps
on specific points on the top of the head, around the eyes and face,
on the collar bone and under the arm. Tapping also takes place on
the hands and fingers. During the tapping sequence a dialogue of
phrases is established which is often enough to bring relief, and
repetition of the process can provide greater effectiveness and
the problem is overcome completely or significantly reduced in severity.
This technique can be used for both physical and emotional pain
and if complete relief is experienced during a session, beneficial
effects are permanent, unless yet undiscovered issues are preventing
this from happening. EFT can be the gateway to discovering how physical
symptoms relate to emotions and this can be a very powerful and
liberating experience. Your EFT therapist will guide you through
the process and you can either tap the energy points yourself or
have the therapist perform the sequences of taps. It is best if
the sequence is learned for practise at home in between sessions
and also after the therapy is completed.
EFT can be used for an enormous range of physical and emotional
problems including:
