What is counselling?
Counselling is a way of helping to find effective ways of coping with problems which may be causing emotional difficulty. It can also be helpful in making life changing decisions.
Counselling is not advice, but a safe and confidential environment in which clients can explore their feelings and options, without being judged. Counselling can help towards achieving new goals, and developing more effective ways of coping with those issues which may otherwise seem unmanageable.
How can counselling help me?
When you are feeling stressed or suffering from other emotional problems, it can be difficult, and sometimes impossible to see the way forward. People who are feeling anxious find it hard to make decisions about their lives, and often neglect to look after themselves, putting other things first. Self-esteem and confidence are also often affected.
Counselling can help clients to begin to reduce their stress levels, by making changes in lifestyle, and by taking various forms of relaxation. Ros can help clients to find a new perspective on the issues which are causing problems. For example, some may be having difficulty in coping with work pressures, but feel they cannot leave your job, and new ways of dealing with the problem can sometimes be found.
Some may be finding it difficult to talk to other people about their problems, and are keeping their feelings suppressed. Releasing those feelings can bring enormous relief, and can help clients to understand and face their problems, which may have felt impossible in the past. This process can also help to boost confidence and self–esteem.
